The official ground-breaking ceremony was recently held to launch a retirement home in Lindsay. It’s the third retirement home under the Bloom banner in Ontario.

The Kirkfield & District Historical Society is embarking on an exciting project, according to a media release, funded by Digital Museums Canada.

Pedestrians walking to the north end of St. Paul Street will encounter a curious-looking house set back among the trees, just as the road curves to become Denniston Street. From one angle, the home resembles a typical suburban bungalow; from another, it evokes the look of a small cottage.

We asked Kawartha Lakes residents how they felt about having to show proof of vaccination to enter some Ontario businesses and services. 

There’s a common refrain in areas like this, where residents are mostly white, once the topic of diversity comes up.

“We just don’t have much diversity so it’s not a concern here.”

That is not the experience of everyone, though.

A strong turnout at a recent panel discussion on neighbourhood safety gave Lindsay residents a chance to share their growing fear that parts of the town were becoming a hotspot for drug-related crimes.

All her life she’s considered herself an advocate for those who have been wronged, but last year in June was when Brooklyn Korz’s first involvement on the front lines took place, at Lindsay’s Black Lives Matter rally, where more than 200 people walked, shouted and kneeled — and which she had a part in organizing.
