Youth winter arts program at Globus
This winter, in addition to Globus Theatre’s School of Dramatic Arts in-person classes, this cultural hub will be the host for a Youth Winter Arts program.
The YWA program is specifically for youth and young adults ages 14-30 who are interested in the theatrical arts but may not have the opportunities to explore their creativity.
Since its creation 19 years ago, Globus has had a long-term commitment to engage youth: producing 16 community pantomimes; a virtual Webseries; Roblox, Literacy and SODA at-home programs; as well as summer and March Break camps. The Youth Winter Arts Program is the result of Globus Theatre being 1 of 8 recipients of the ArtsEngage Engagement Grants for Community Presenters provided by Ontario Presents.
This funding allows Globus to collaborate with an artist in the area to create a production during the winter when the Kawartha Lakes community is looking for ways to get involved. Additionally, the program is free for participants to join, thanks to the generosity of funders. All experience levels are welcome, whether you’re a seasoned performer or this is the first time you have stepped on stage – meaning youth from all over the Kawartha Lakes can join.
Globus’ YWA program is directed by Rebecca Anne Bloom, a local professional actor and creator who has over a decade of performing experience both theatrically and musically on stage. Registration for the program is open from now until Jan. 20; participants will be meeting 2-3 times a week starting at the beginning of February, with a final production at the end of March.
What the production is has yet to be determined because it will be decided by all the youth and young adults that are participating. It could be a comedy, a drama, or some scene selections, the creative opportunities are endless, and this is the perfect occasion for youth to make their mark on the stage.
As part of their Winter Arts project Globus Theatre will be hosting seniors performance sessions as well, with dates to be released soon.
