Youth music program receives support from TD Bank Group
BGC Kawarthas is pleased to announce that with the support of TD Bank Group, it will be offering the Youth Music Makers program for the 2021/22 school year at the club’s main facility in Lindsay.
TD has provided a $10,000 grant to support the program with the hopes of continuing support for an additional two years.
“At TD, we see music as a universal language that can bring communities together and give us all somewhere to belong,” says Michelle Wilson, District Vice President, Greater Ontario Region at TD Bank. “ That is why we are so excited to support music education for youth, working with BGC Kawarthas and the Youth Music Program – such a powerful way to build confident communities!
“With the support of TD we will be able to offer training in music and technology skills that will create opportunities for skill development, job creation and possibly future careers for local youth,” says Amy Terrill, Executive Director. “Music offers so many benefits including creative problem-solving skills, collaboration, analytical thinking and self-confidence. Participation in music and arts can also have a positive impact on mental health and create an avenue for self-expression.”
Program components include: songwriting, music recording, music mixing, production and sound/tech production (events). There will be two 10-week programs this school year, the first focused on songwriting and the second, on production and recording.
“Music Makers – Songwriting” begins October 13th and will take place Wednesday nights from 5:45 to 7pm. This 10-week program is for participants in grades 7-12. The cost is $150 and participants must register as members (Financial Assistance is available from BGC, for anyone who requires it).
The music programs will be led by BGC Kawarthas’ Music Supervisor, Warren Frank, who is an accomplished songwriter, instrumentalist and lead singer of Heaps & The Kents.
Youth Music Makers is one many offered at the Club’s Warehouse Youth Centre. All youth after school programs are resuming this fall with necessary safety measures in place. For more information or to register now
