Coboconk Chamber

Another summer begins in the Coboconk, Norland area, and some things are a given in cottage country this time of year. Like roasting marshmallows over the fire with the grandkids, relaxing in the afternoon sun and most likely, bugs by the lake.

This season though, The Coboconk, Norland and Area Chamber of Commerce want to draw attention to what is really important – the stores and businesses that are part of everyone’s routine when heading up to the cottage for the weekend.

Having the convenience of these stores and small businesses without having to drive into a bigger town is so important to our way of life. But, if we don’t actively shop local, they are in danger. We have seen many businesses leave Coboconk this year, including the bank, a staple many took for granted. The saying “you don’t know what you have until it’s gone” should be heeded as a warning for small towns like ours – small towns that rely on the summer influx to keep their doors open year-round.

Supporting the locals who live and work here to keep the town alive for when summer comes around, and cottagers come back to enjoy their seasonal properties for our short but glorious summer is vital. These are amenities that make this area relaxing and convenient and they need
to be appreciated. So, this season challenge yourself. Shop at a few new stores this summer, ones you have been driving past and just haven’t been able to stop into yet. Make this the year you try that little fry truck or patio you have seen but haven’t had the chance to try out. It’s a win-win, by supporting local businesses in this small seasonal area you will help secure a future for everyone and keep this little slice of heaven a healthy and thriving community. Shop Local!
