Weldon student wins high school business plan competition

Meg Kitchen of I.E. Weldon Secondary School won top honours and $500 in the 2017 recently in the Kawartha Lakes Small Business and Entrepreneurship Centre (KLSBEC) high school business plan competition.  Hope Janes and Kyler Shaw of I.E. Weldon Secondary School won first and second runner-up status. Honourable mention awards were presented to Alexis Wilson and Matthew Nixon of Fenelon Falls Secondary School. The first prize award was sponsored by Kawartha Lakes Community Futures Development Corporation and the prizes for first and second runner-ups were sponsored by Kawartha Lakes This Week.

“I would like to thank Kawartha Lakes Community Futures Development Corporation and Kawartha Lakes This Week for sponsoring our awards and congratulate all of the participants in this years’ competition,” comments Diane Steven, Manager of KLSBEC.

“It is great to see students presenting new business ideas and writing comprehensive business plans as they develop the skills to become young entrepreneurs.”

Each year KLSBEC staff visit all four high schools in Kawartha Lakes to encourage students to test their skills in research, planning and business development by entering the competition.  All Kawartha Lakes students enrolled in Grades 9 to 12 are eligible to participate. This year I.E. Weldon and LCVI received plaques recognizing the most student submissions in the competition.
