Want to play in the new local band?

The same folks that brought the Odyssey Project to the community are at it again. Retired high school music teacher, David Morrison and his ‘noteworthy’ friends, are starting a concert band for adult musicians in City of Kawartha Lakes.

The Kawartha Lakes Concert Band (KLCB) will be starting this September and the ensemble wants to hear from interested musicians. The aim of the KLCB is to provide adult players with the opportunity to perform some great concert band repertoire for both the challenge and the joy of it.

Morrison says he is hoping the band will allow people in the community to reconnect with their love for music performance.

“It always amazes me just how many folks in our community have played in a band at some point earlier in their life, whether it was high school band, a church ensemble, Lindsay Kinsmen Band, or whatever. I run into these people all the time and so many of them comment that they miss both the experience of playing music as well as the camaraderie that exists within a band. So I casually threw the idea out there on Facebook just to see if there was a real desire within the broader community, and I must say I was overwhelmed by the positive response. “

The band will rehearse Monday evenings from September to June and is open to anyone who reads music and plays a concert band instrument like the flute, clarinet, sax, trumpet, trombone, tuba, percussion etc.  Morrison jokes that he anticipates the first few rehearsals may be a bit of bumpy road as some players may need time to reacquaint themselves with their instrument and rebuild their playing ‘chops’.  He promises to ease everyone back into the world of playing gently and gradually but says that the ultimate goal is to be “a high-quality performance ensemble”.
