Volunteers sought for the International Plowing Match and Rural Expo
Imagine stepping into a world where the past and future of agriculture blend seamlessly, showcasing the very essence of rural life and farming innovation. This is not just a vision; it’s the reality awaiting visitors at the 2024 International Plowing Match & Rural Expo in Kawartha Lakes, from October 1 to 5, 2024. But it can’t happen without people, and organizers are seeking passionate volunteers to be the backbone of this incredible event; make a difference, gain valuable experience, and be at the forefront of agricultural history.
Join us for an inspiring evening of community spirit at the volunteer recruitment night on Monday, May 13, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Woodville Sales Barn, 580 Woodville Road, Woodville. This isn’t just a call to action; it’s a personal invitation to become part of a century-long legacy celebrating humanity’s connection to the land.
Volunteers can discover how they can make a difference at the 2024 International Plowing Match & Rural Expo. They can learn about diverse volunteer opportunities, connect with event organizers, and be a part of something truly special.
The International Plowing Match & Rural Expo is a living tapestry of agricultural heritage, cutting-edge technology, and community vitality. With historical attendance soaring between 60,000 and 80,000 visitors, this event transcends boundaries, drawing people from across the globe to witness the transformation of Kawartha Lakes’ fields into a vibrant expo unlike any other.
Imagine a tented city with non-stop entertainment, plowing competitions that track the evolution of farming from horse-drawn plows to the latest in agricultural tech, and a full-service RV park to accommodate our guests from near and far. It is an immersive experience that celebrates the heart and soul of rural life and the communities that keep these traditions alive.
Judy Poulin, chair of the volunteer committee, suspects the event could need up to 1,000 volunteers.
”We are looking for all skill types and there are opportunities for everyone,” she said. “We start weeks before and work until days after, so the need is great – we really need all hands on deck!”
Volunteer participation offers a unique opportunity to engage with the land’s legacy, support sustainable agriculture, and ensure the success of an event that educates, entertains, and inspires. Whether they have a few hours to spare or can commit more time, volunteer contributions will help sow the seeds for an unforgettable experience.
