Upcoming road closure for critical upgrades on Bobcaygeon swing bridge

By Lindsay Advocate

In November of last year, Parks Canada released an update advising that work was beginning on the installation of the permanent end lifts for the Bobcaygeon swing bridge. These vertical end lifts are critical in ensuring the bridge seals tightly to the abutments during swings.

Parks Canada is now moving forward with the next stage in this project, which will involve a full road closure at the swing bridge (Bolton Street from 43m north of Canal Street West to Canal Street West) from Feb. 3 to Feb. 12, to facilitate the permanent installation of these components.

Parks Canada is working closely with the community to ensure that the bridge will be open for Bobcaygeon’s Annual Frost Fest, which is scheduled to take place from Feb. 14 to Feb. 17.

Following Frost Fest, another short closure may be required to complete the work. The last steps in the project will include the final commissioning of the bridge in the early spring when warmer temperatures allow.

This important infrastructure work is part of Parks Canada’s efforts to improve waterway and highway assets within national historic sites, national parks, and national marine conservation areas, including the Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site.
