Traffic stop leads to charges and recovery of stolen property
On Tuesday, June 16, Kawartha Lakes Police conducted a traffic stop in the area of Queen Street and Lindsay Street North following a traffic complaint.
During the stop, officers identified the driver and determined he was prohibited from operating a motor vehicle. The driver was arrested and charged accordingly, and the vehicle was seized.
While processing the vehicle seizure, officers located property bearing identifying stickers from two stores in Oshawa. Police contacted store loss prevention teams, who confirmed the items had been reported stolen. CCTV footage further supported the investigation, leading to additional arrests.
Both the driver and passenger now face criminal charges:
Accused #1:
39-year-old male from Little Britain
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 Sec. 354(1)(a) CC x2
- Fail to comply with probation order Sec. 733.1(1) CC x2
Accused #2:
38-year-old male from Ottawa
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 Sec. 354(1)(a) CC x2
- Theft under $5,000 – shoplifting Sec. 334(b) CC x2
- Operation while prohibited Sec. 320.18 CC
