John Ireland loves history and he came to realize that he was surrounded by it, where he lives on Mill Street in Lindsay.

The area was the original centre of town, predating Kent Street.

The neighbourhood was home to one of Lindsay’s first banks (The Bank of Upper Canada) and of course St. Mary’s Catholic Church and its rectory, to name just a few.

Country Cupboard owner Julia Taylor says a guaranteed income can help people have a chance to become entrepreneurs.

Julia Taylor is the proud new owner of Country Cupboard in Fenelon Falls, a health and bulk food store that has been a community staple for 35 years in the village.

Her belief is that it couldn’t have happened without a kind of ‘basic income’ that she counted on back in 2012 when her first child was born – the Canada Child Benefit.

‘Downtown dreams’ aims to give Kawartha Lakes’ small businesses a shot in the arm

A project that aims to fill empty retail space and improve existing businesses is being launched this week by the City of Kawartha Lakes.

Downtown Dreams, as it’s called, is a business and growth program designed to attract new or existing businesses to open, expand or move into the downtowns of Coboconk or Norland, Fenelon Falls, Omemee, and Lindsay.

Kawartha Lakes Libraries have great digital resources for the whole family.

If you are reading this you’re almost certainly on the “haves” side of the digital divide.

You have at least one computer, tablet or smartphone — you may even have all three. For a monthly fee a service provider connects you to all that the internet has to offer and to a community of other users.

You may also make monthly payments for additional streaming music or videos. And for sure you have the skills to use devices and navigate the web. (You found your way to The Lindsay Advocate website, didn’t you?)
