Suspicious death in Fenelon Falls determined to be a homicide; OPP seeking suspect

A suspicious death in the Town of Fenelon Falls has now been deemed a homicide and an arrest warrant has been issued for murder.

Shortly after 7:30 p.m. on October 2, 2023, the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the death of a 79-year-old female at a residence on Kanata Trail.

The name of the deceased is not being released at this time.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Stephen Whiteway, age 48, of Fenelon Township. He is charged with second degree murder, section 235 of the Criminal Code. Whiteway is known to frequent the Lindsay area.

The City of Kawartha Lakes OPP Crime Unit continues its investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), with assistance from members of the OPP Central Region Crime Unit, City of Kawartha Lakes OPP Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS), and OPP Regional Support Team (RST), and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario (OCCO) and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service (OFPS).
