Storm update for April 3

The City of Kawartha Lakes Emergency Operations Centre met this afternoon to assess ongoing storm recovery efforts.
Statement from Mayor Elmslie:
“I toured Emily, Omemee and the eastern part of Kawartha Lakes today with Councillor Richardson. We met with Team Rubicon, a veteran-led volunteer organization, stationed out of the Omemee Legion. They are providing crisis support to our community, and we discussed the areas that need the most support. We appreciate their help with water delivery and other essentials. We also ran into the Gagnon Line Construction group out of New Brunswick. This team of retired linesmen are assisting Hydro One. They were helping with the lines down on Peace Road and Tracy’s Hill Road. Hydro One confirms over 3800 personnel on the ground, a small army.
Challenging weather yesterday caused new outages, but improved conditions today have allowed helicopters to return to the air. Access remains a challenge in some locations, and residents are urged to stay safe and avoid downed lines or debris. If you’re a seasonal resident, please refrain from coming to your property until we can confirm it’s safe to return.
Flooding on the Burnt River and other flood prone areas is a concern this weekend, and local authorities are coordinating with our staff. Outreach is taking place to ensure our most vulnerable residents are looked after.
On behalf of Council, I want to thank the crews at Hydro One, provincial supports, City staff and emergency responders, along with all volunteers for their tireless effort. I appreciate our community for its resiliency and patience as recovery continues.”
