Stanley Cup Coming to Lindsay

By Lindsay Advocate

Stanley Cup-winning defenceman for the St. Louis Blues, Vince Dunn, will return to his hometown of Lindsay to share hockey’s most prized trophy, the Stanley Cup, with residents of Kawartha Lakes.

The St. Louis Blues defeated the Boston Bruins in seven games to win the Stanley Cup. Dunn was part of the St. Louis Blues’ first ever NHL championship.

22 year old Dunn began his hockey career in Lindsay. He later moved on to play for the Peterborough Petes at the Bantam and Midget level. Dunn played amateur Junior B hockey with the Thorold Blackhawks of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League before joining the Niagara IceDogs for his major junior career. Dunn was selected by the St. Louis Blues with their first pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. He was signed to a three-year, entry-level contract with the Blues in September of 2015. After his three seasons in the OHL, Dunn chose to begin his professional career, assigned by the Blues to their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Chicago Wolves, for the 2016–17 season.

Dunn made his NHL debut with the Blues against the defending champions the Pittsburgh Penguins, playing a third pairing role in a 5–4 overtime victory in October of 2017.

Individuals will have an opportunity to meet Vince Dunn, get an autograph and have their photo taken with the Stanley Cup on Saturday July 13 from 12:30pm to 3:30pm on Pad 1 at the Lindsay Recreation Complex (133 Adelaide Street South, Lindsay).

A Canadian Tire Jumpstart memorial fund has been established in honour of Dunn’s late ‘Poppa’ who had an influential role over his development and love of hockey.  The Canadian Tire Jumpstart program provides the opportunity for children to play hockey by providing registration funding support and making the sport accessible to all. Donations will be accepted at the event for this program.
