Smoking thief arrested
A 23-year-old man of no fixed address was detained in custody after failing to pay for a package of cigarettes at a Kent Street West convenience store.
Kawartha Lakes Police were called to the store at 9:30 pm on Oct. 10 after a man entered the store and requested a package of cigarettes. After the clerk handed the man the package, he removed a cigarette and attempted to light it in the store.
When the clerk prevented him from lighting up, the man left the store without paying for the cigarettes. When police arrived, they located the man behind the store still in possession of the cigarettes.
Jacob Toohey-Carignan of no fixed address was detained in custody. He appeared for a bail hearing on charges of Theft Under $5000.00 and Failing to Comply with a Probation Order at the Lindsay Court of Justice on Oct. 11.
