Silver Lights aims for seniors to live life to the fullest

By Lindsay Advocate

Tammy Adams has always been in the helping professions. She had long helped children and adults with special needs, supporting and advocating for them. Then she noticed there was a shortage of that same assistance for seniors in Kawartha Lakes.

“I wanted to help them maintain their independence and live their lives to the fullest, with some help,” says Adams.

Since she had spent a big part of her life in social work and supporting adults that may need it, taking this same approach to seniors came naturally to her when she launched Silver Lights Seniors Services.

Silver Lights provides companionship and ‘accompanying services’ to help seniors in the Lindsay area “live their best independent lives.”

“Being able to do this for people and see them enjoy life and make things a little easier makes me feel really good inside,” says Adams.

Adams likes the idea of helping seniors take care of some of the small things — be it taking them to the bank, shopping, gift hunting, or for any other reason — so that when they visit with their families they can spend quality time together.

It’s not a good situation, she says, when seniors are lonely, not wanting to bother their own families and doing without themselves. This may include not going out to socialize, which is an important aspect of life to maintain, Adams says. They need to “still feel like part of society.”

Right now Adams is running a summer special. After hearing that so many seniors are living on a fixed income, she has lowered her prices for the summer months to make it more affordable and accessible to more local seniors, to “let everyone have the opportunity to enjoy the summer to the fullest.” Contact Adams to find out more at 705-308-1940.
