Schmale confirmed as Conservative candidate again
Local MP Jamie Schmale confirmed that he will be the Conservative Party of Canada candidate in Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock during the 2019 federal election.
The announcement comes after open nomination contests for dozens of incumbent Conservative Members of Parliament were launched in late November. Schmale was then notified by the party following the closing of the nomination period on December 15 that no challenger had stepped forward to oppose him.
“It has been an incredible privilege to represent the people of this area in Canada’s 42nd Parliament,” said Schmale. “I’m also honoured that I continue to hold the trust of local riding association members to serve as their candidate.”
In addition to being the Member of Parliament for Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock, Schmale is also Shadow Minister for Northern Ontario Economic Development and Deputy Shadow Minister for Natural Resources.
Going forward, Schmale’s focus is to continue to interact, engage and work hard for constituents in his riding. He hopes those efforts will translate into his successful re-election in 2019.
“As we approach the next federal election, I will continue to stand up for hardworking taxpayers in this riding and beyond,” said Schmale. “Over the past two years, Canada’s Official Opposition has held Justin Trudeau’s Liberal government accountable for its unethical behaviour, tax hikes and failure to deliver results for middle class Canadians.”
