Rising country star Alexa Goldie coming to Lindsay for North of Nowhere festival
Born and raised in Kingston, Ontario, Alexa Goldie is a country singer-songwriter who took to Nashville to fulfill her dreams — and she’s coming to Lindsay July 20 for the North of Nowhere Festival.
Alexa has been making music since she was a little girl and it’s always been her dream to become a country star. Now she is on the road to fame by performing at shows and festivals and releasing singles and EPs. She says that hearing her songs come together is always special.
“Making music is therapeutic for me. I am the most excited and happy when I have a song idea come to mind and get it on paper… I get goosebumps thinking about the day it will be released and hearing everyone’s thoughts on it.”
This summer, Goldie is booked for all kinds of festivals. This is the first time she has been travelling to perform in different cities and she says it’s nothing like what she’s used to.
“This is my first time being out on the road with my band and having constant performances in different cities, and so far, it has been beyond my wildest dreams. I have spent the majority of my career so far performing in local bars in Kingston and Nashville, playing cover songs and taking requests.”
Goldie recently played at Ottawa Bluesfest in early July and she is booked to perform at Boots & Hearts on Aug. 8.
“Playing Ottawa Bluesfest was a milestone in my career. I had spent 13 years going to that festival, dreaming about the day I got to play on one of the stages, and it just happened on July 11,” says Goldie.
North of Nowhere , held at the Lindsay fairgrounds, is a new country-rock music and camping festival with more than 20 performers lined up.
“I feel that North of Nowhere is going to be the next big festival, so I’m happy to be a part of it this year,” says Goldie.
Aside from all the shows and festivals Goldie was recently nominated for Breakthrough Artist of the Year award at the Country Music Association of Ontario (CMAO).
“This was my first year ever being nominated for a CMAO Award, and it felt very surreal to be nominated alongside some of Canada’s best. It was also my first time ever attending the awards weekend, and it was awesome,” says Goldie.
Between performing and being nominated for awards Goldie is working on releasing new music soon. Right now, she has one EP and nine singles out. She plans on creating another EP and pushing more singles before releasing an album.
Her latest single, Bad Boy, was inspired by one of her ex-boyfriends who broke up with her over text and then a few months later realized he wanted her back. Her next single, Cheat Time, is about being so in love you don’t want to leave the moment you’re in with your person.
As for the best part of what she does, Goldie says it’s about emotional strength.
“Music…helps me through good and bad times, and (I know) it helps my fans as well.”
