OPP arrest suspect in Fenelon Falls homicide investigation

The suspect in a homicide investigation in the Town of Fenelon Falls has been arrested.

Shortly after 7:30 p.m. on October 2, 2023, the City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the death of 79-year-old Marilyn Whiteway at a residence on Kanata Trail.

On October 11, 2023 at approximately 1:30 p.m. officers located and arrested the suspect outside a residence in the Town of Lindsay.

Stephen Whiteway, 48-year-old resident of Fenelon Township, has been charged with second degree murder, section 235 of the Criminal Code.

The City of Kawartha Lakes OPP Crime Unit continues its investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), with assistance from members of the OPP Central Region Crime Unit, City of Kawartha Lakes OPP Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS), and OPP Regional Support Team (RST), and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario (OCCO) and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service (OFPS).
