Online reading of Sunshine Express by Globus April 24

By Lindsay Advocate

Sunshine Express by Sarah Quick is back as an online play reading at Globus Theatre. This online reading will be broadcast live and performed by the original cast. The show can be enjoyed by fans near and far but local audiences have the option of enjoying a delicious Southern-style three-course meal from the Lakeview Arts Barn (LAB) in the comfort of their own home.

Tickets are available now for the evening show at 7:30 on April 24. The recording of the show will be available to watch until the end of April if you’re unable to catch it on Saturday.

Sunshine Express originally premiered on the Globus Theatre stage in 2010 and has since played in 2014 and 2018, while also having been toured to The Village Playhouse, Bancroft and The Gayety Theatre, Collingwood and enjoying a run at Port Stanley Festival Theatre.

Join Globus once again as all board the Sunshine Express, a coach tour that sees dreams realized and lives unfurled. Meet a multitude of characters played by Anna Silvija-Broks, Mark Whelan, Sarah Quick and James Barrett, who are all hoping to pack up their parkas and top up their tans. A media release calls it the “ultimate road trip from the great white north to the sunshine state!”

“We figured that at this time when our travel is curtailed, and the weather is (still!) horrible our audiences may enjoy a bit of an adventure south! Sunshine Express has always been an audience favourite and we all love the characters that we originated when the play was first performed – we relish the opportunity to meet them again and we hope you will too,” says Quick.

The Lakeview Arts Barn’s three-course dinner includes Southern-style menu options like Chicken and Waffles and Pulled Pork with Jalapeno Cornbread, and for dessert, Bananas Foster or Chocolate Pecan Cobbler (topped with that well known Floridian staple, Kawartha Dairy Ice cream!). Take-out & Theatre tickets are $60 per person or $100 for two. Show-only tickets are just $20 per household.

Tickets can be booked by calling Globus Theatre’s box office at 705-738-2037. Once booked, dinner can be picked up at the Lakeview Arts Barn in Bobcaygeon on April 24 between 5-7 pm with an evening show live at 7:30 pm.
