Online marketplace revitalized in time for holidays, says KLAC

By Lindsay Advocate

The Kawartha Lakes Arts Council (KLAC), the local Community Arts Council for the City of Kawartha Lakes, is delighted to announce their revitalized online Marketplace, just in time for your holiday shopping season and a chance to shop local. The Marketplace offers one-of-a-kind items, all available for purchase online. It represents another initiative from KLAC in continuing to support the careers and livelihood of local arts and culture creators.

To celebrate this announcement, KLAC will be hosting a Winter Maker’s Market on Tuesday November 29 from 6 to 8 pm at Celebrations Lindsay (35 Lindsay Street North, Lindsay, Ontario). This is a wonderful opportunity for the general public to learn about our revitalized online marketplace, meet and greet with artists, and shop a selection of products from our local Marketplace vendors. Admission is by donation, and items can be purchased for cash.

The Kawartha Lakes Arts Council (KLAC) received funding in 2022 to reduce barriers for participation in the online Marketplace, resulting in a stronger community voice for local creators. Some of the upgrades to the Marketplace include:

  • A renewed push for items to be posted on the site, providing more opportunities for residents to shop local.
  • Three (3) free online shelves as part of Artist membership at the Kawartha Lakes Arts Council.
  • Opening up the Marketplace to vendors who are not members of the Kawartha Lakes Arts Council, thereby serving a greater share of citizens in the City of Kawartha Lakes.
  • A mission to develop offerings on the Marketplace beyond the visual arts, to include all forms of arts and culture, including performing arts (theatre, dance, concerts), and more.

Ray Marshall, chair of KLAC, says “We are excited to be able to continue our important work on the revitalized Kawartha Lakes Arts Council Marketplace, another way this Community Arts Council continues to support local artists. This effort began as a way to reach the public and provide a safe shopping opportunity from home while Covid-19 prevailed in the community. We hope everyone can join us for the Winter Maker’s Market to shop for the holidays and meet local artists.”
