Off duty Kawartha Lakes Police officer arrests shoplifter

On Monday June 25 at 1:30 pm a City of Kawartha Lakes Police Service constable who was off duty, observed a theft take place at a business on Kent Street west in Lindsay.

The officer approached the male suspect, identified herself as a police officer and arrested him for the theft.

On-duty members of the Kawartha Lakes Police Service arrived a short time later and took custody of the accused.

Charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime is 52-year-old Murray Kalvin Sawyer of Lindsay.

The accused will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on July 26.
