The Boys and Girls Clubs of Kawartha Lakes (BGCKL) has officially opened nominations for the Second Annual Kawartha Lakes Youth Awards.

The Kawartha Lakes Youth Awards are intended to shine a light on the accomplishments of youth between the ages of 12 and 24 with a strong connection to Kawartha Lakes, while increasing knowledge of youth programs offered by BGCKL.

There are eight award categories: BGCKL Club Spirit Award, Arts Achievement Award, Entrepreneurship Award, Green Award, Humanitarian Award, Leadership Award, Resiliency Award and Physical Literacy Award. Only the Club Spirit Award requires nominees to have a direct connection to BGCKL.

Relatives of BGCKL founder Ron Kennedy have also established a scholarship that will be presented to one award nominee who is entering post-secondary education or training within the next 12 months.

2020, the first year of the awards program, saw 60 nominations submitted from a variety of community sources. Due to COVID-19, winners were announced at a small ceremony in October of last year. In 2021, the hope is that the original vision of a youth lead awards ceremony and celebration can be realized.

Returning this year as major sponsors of the program are Polito Ford Lincoln, Kawartha Lakes Honda and BOB FM. Additional sponsorship opportunities are available.

Nominations close on February 26.
