New TLDSB superintendent of business services

Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) trustees approved the appointment of Tim Ellis as the board’s new superintendent of business services, replacing Bob Kaye who will be retiring after working for 28 years with the board.

Ellis will be responsible for system fiscal management and accountability, as well as leadership of facility and transportation departments.

“We are thrilled to welcome Tim Ellis to be part of our team,” stated Director of Education Larry Hope. “Tim’s financial experience in education will be an asset to TLDSB as we continue along our path of responsible fiscal management.”

Ellis comes with a wealth of knowledge and experience in finance positions at a number of Ontario school boards. He will be leaving his position at York Region District School Board where he has been the senior manager of finance since 2012. Previous positions have included comptroller of finance at Toronto District School Board, senior manager at Toronto Catholic District School Board, and budget analyst at Durham District School Board.

During this time he has worked on a range of projects including the implementation of Full Day Kindergarten and the modification of financial reporting in the creation of tangible capital assets. “Every day of my life is immersed in education,” said Ellis. “As a father of three children and husband to an elementary teacher, I learn as much around the dinner table as I do during my time in the office. With this, I’ve learned that as a leader, we need to be flexible, open and collaborative; to not accept the status quo; and to constantly find ways to be better and more effective in delivery of education to all our learners.”

Ellis will begin his new position Nov. 1, and plans to move from Uxbridge to the Muskoka area with his wife and three children (8, 11, and 17) in the next school year.
