New hotel opening soon
Best Western Plus will be opening this spring on Angeline Street in Lindsay next to the Days Inn. The hotels are connected by similar ownership and management.
The project has been in the works for seven years after being delayed due to COVID, with construction having finally begun two years ago.
“Everybody here (at the Days Inn) realized the need, the demand for some more accommodations,” said Stacey Brown, general manager of the new hotel. The Best Western will have rooms built for long-term stays that include kitchenettes and will also have additional event space to accommodate celebrations like wedding parties.
They’ve had inquiries from students at Fleming College about long-term stays. Since some students attend programs that are only three months long, they don’t qualify for on-campus residence and the new hotel offering longer stays opens that option for them.
Additionally, the Best Western will also have family-friendly dining called The Field Restaurant & Bar. The restaurant will be managed by Brad Lewis, who has more than 15 years of experience in the hospitably industry.

Lakes Hotel Group and it consists of Don Brown,
Dave Holiday, Brad Bird, Alan Bird, Pat Murphy,
Jim Naylor, John Naylor, Jeff Whyte, Greg Dowdall and Candace Webster.
The team is using their experience from the Days Inn and applying that to the new hotel as well. They will continue to focus on supporting the community when possible and feature Burns Bulk Food treats at the snack bar in the lobby and Kawartha Wholesale Bakery for baked goods.
Even the architecture and design of the hotel highlight Kawartha Lakes. The meeting rooms are named Balsam, Sturgeon and Cameron after local lakes, and the pool will have a design that looks like a deck overlooking the water.
The hotel will have a business centre, with computers and printers available for use.
“It’s also a good opportunity to see what works (at the Days Inn) and what doesn’t,” said Brown. One thing they noticed the need for was making the hotel quieter. They’ve done this in the Best Western by making the rooms more soundproof, and the only adjoining rooms are the fully accessible ones.
They’ve included small design changes that will make a big difference. At the Best Western they’re including two elevators as opposed to one, to allow for more foot traffic to move through.
A job fair will be held at the end of April for the Days Inn, Best Western and the new restaurant. For more information on the fair go to bestwesternplus.kl, thefieldlindsay on Instagram or BW Kawartha Lakes and The Field Restaurant and Bar on Facebook.
