Trustees approved the appointment of Wesley Hahn as the new director of education for Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) this afternoon at a special meeting of the board.

Hahn began his career in education in the Toronto District School Board. He moved to the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board as a teacher, and then an administrator before being appointed as a superintendent in 2012 at the District School Board of Niagara.

“We have completed an exhaustive comprehensive process to select a new director for the board,” said Chairperson Bruce Reain.

“We are delighted to have Wes join our team, and we know he is going to be a good fit for our TLDSB family.”

Hahn and his partner Lindsey will be moving to the area over the next few weeks.

A musician at heart, Hahn plays the guitar and rides a motorcycle. He spent many summers in his youth staying with family in the area, and enjoying hiking and fishing.

Hahn has 23 year old twin daughters – one working for a law firm, the other completing a human resources certification.

“TLDSB has an excellent reputation in the province,” stated Hahn. “I am excited to continue with the good work that is taking place here.”

Highlighting his ‘3 C’s’, collaboration, compassion, and connection, Hahn says that for him, people come first.

“Engaging others through respectful dialogue and active listening builds positive relationships and trust,” he continues, “I am looking forward to engaging with all TLDSB stakeholders.”

Following the retirement of long-term Director of Education Larry Hope at the end of July, Hahn will begin his new position on August 1, 2020.

The new director will begin his work with the school board in time for the implementation of a return to school plan following school closures since March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
