Lessons from history: Academy Theatre needs its drama on stage, not at board table

Premiering Tuesday is a podcast dedicated to Lindsay’s Flato Academy Theatre.

Randy Read, 72, has a thorough history with Lindsay’s almost 130-year-old theatre, having performed, directed, played, and stage handed there.

It has been a dream project of his for years to reveal the fascinating and rich history the theatre has been a part of. He is doing that with the Now & Then podcast. The first season is set to have a total of twelve episodes, one per month.

Each episode will have guest stars, telling stories about what has happened at the theatre over the years, and what works are currently in production.

The first episode drops Tuesday, Nov. 1 on Soundcloud, Podbean, Spotify, and his website, and will have these guest stars; the Advocate’s Ian McKechnie, discussing the building’s history, the theatre’s General Manager Craig Metcalf discussing upcoming attractions, some of the cast of the upcoming play Seussical, General Manager of The Pie Eyed Monk Erastus Burley discussing a competition the theatre is hosting, and a special guest star under the name Mary the Ghost.

His new website is and his Facebook and Instagram pages will keep listeners up to date. You can click here to see a new video posted to social media about the project.
