MP Schmale’s KL21K seeks volunteers
Local MP Jamie Schmale is teaming up for a second time with the City of Kawartha Lakes to bring the Kawartha Lakes Half Marathon (KL21K). This year’s event lines up with the 40th anniversary of the Lindsay Milk Run.
“Last year’s inaugural event was a huge success,” says Schmale. “We saw people come from Peterborough, various areas of the GTA, and from a wide range of locations including Montreal, Novia Scotia and the USA.”
A post-race survey was conducted after last year’s event with participants giving extremely positive feedback with an overall high runner satisfaction rate. The survey indicated that 100 per cent of the participants would participate in future events.
“This half marathon would not be at all possible without the hard work of dedicated volunteers,” says Schmale. “Volunteers help enrich our community and ensure that events like this are successful.”
Volunteers are still needed for this year’s event which scheduled to take place on July 15. Volunteers are required from about 6-11 am. Positions include: water stations, course marshalls, traffic attendants, registration/pre-registrations, set up/tear down and food distribution.
All volunteers will receive a volunteer t-shirt, complimentary refreshments (Kawartha Dairy ice cream) and a volunteer hour recognition certificate. Those interested in volunteering are asked to contact Courtney Boyd ()
“This is an opportunity for community members of all ages to get involved in a fun-filled community tradition,” says Schmale. “I look forward to seeing you at this year’s run.”
