Yesterday afternoon City of Kawartha Lakes Police Service received a report of an assault that occurred outside of a Mary Street West residence in Lindsay.

The investigating officers learned that a woman and her boyfriend were leaving their home when they were confronted by a man known to them.

The confrontation escalated when the female was forced onto the ground by the male. The man then produced a metal, extendable baton and made a threatening gesture at the woman with the weapon.

The woman’s boyfriend attempted to assist her, but he was also assaulted by the man. The woman and her boyfriend were able to break away from the male, returned to their home and telephoned police.

Members of the City of Kawartha Lakes Police Service arrived shortly after and located the male who was responsible for the attack.

Charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and failing to comply with the conditions of his probation order is 22-year-old Devon Hedley.

The accused was held in custody and will attend a bail hearing today.
