Letham wins: City votes to stay the course

Kawartha Lakes Mayor Andy Letham was unable to chair the regularly scheduled Oct. 6 council meeting because he is self-isolating and waiting for a COVID-19 test at Ross Memorial hospital in Lindsay.

Deputy Mayor Patrick O’Reilly chaired the meeting in Letham’s place and made the announcement regarding the mayor’s health to council and staff.

O’Reilly said the mayor “had been feeling unwell” and decided it was best to self-isolate at home.

Letham participated digitally from home during the almost five-hour meeting of the whole and appeared to be engaged and alert.

The mayor’s decision to self-isolate also led to the cancellation of his press scrum scheduled for the morning of Oct. 7.

The date of the mayor’s test is currently unknown.
