Mayor announces new committee responsibilities
At the most recent regular council meeting, Mayor Doug Elmslie announced a shuffle in board, committee and task force memberships for several Kawartha Lakes councillors. These new appointments take effect immediately and run through to the end of this council’s term on Nov. 14, 2026.
“Members of council are required to sit on various advisory committees, boards, task forces and outside agencies throughout the term of council with a mid-term review in 2024,” Elmslie said.
Elmslie told council that the review of the appointments made in 2022 is now complete, and with input from the various councillors, a number of new appointments were announced and approved unanimously.
In no particular order, Councillor Tracy Richardson joins the Kawartha Lakes Municipal Heritage Committee, Councillor Ron Ashmore becomes a member of both the Planning Advisory Committee and the Victoria Manor Committee of Management, Councillor Dan Joyce takes a position on the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit Board, Deputy-Mayor Charlie McDonald joins the Kawartha Lakes Police Services Board and Councillor Mike Perry becomes a member of the Ontario Provincial Police Board.
In other moves, Councillor Emmett Yeo joins the Committee of Adjustment while Perry takes a position on the Fenelon Cemetery Committee.
“These changes will provide councillors with the opportunity to become involved and aware of other areas of interest while still maintaining a commitment to ensure council involvement and accountability to the public,” Elmslie said.
