Malcolm Quigley announces candidacy for Ward 5

By Lindsay Advocate

Malcolm Quigley has recently joined the list of candidates running for Kawartha Lakes Council in the upcoming Ward 5 byelection.

Quigley has resided in Kawartha Lakes for 36 years. He retired from a distinguished 31-year career in provincial law enforcement, with 20 of those years dedicated to policing the very community he now seeks to serve as a councillor.

Throughout his career, Quigley assumed numerous leadership roles, acquiring valuable skills and experience that he believes will translate seamlessly to the role of councillor if elected. His dedication to the community is evident in his over a decade-long volunteer service as a Lindsay minor hockey coach, as well as his tenure as a director on the Kawartha/Haliburton Victim Services Board. Quigley continues to contribute to the community by organizing adult recreational hockey and golf and serving as a director on a local condominium board, where he represents and protects the rights and interests of owners.

Quigley said in a media release that he is acutely aware of the many challenges facing the greater community, such as increased hospital wait times, homelessness, and mental health crisis. “This ongoing increase continues to exhaust all of our emergency service providers and community partners pushing their resources and capacity to the limits. As a member of council, I will be committed to pursuing and securing the much-needed critical infrastructure to support the rapidly growing needs of the city.”

He says he is committed to fiscal responsibility by “ensuring that city services are delivered efficiently and cost-effectively, decision-making is inclusive and future development is sustainable.” Quigley describes his goal is “to establish positive outcomes for our community while representing the needs and concerns of community members.”

“It would be an honour to serve our community in this role and I am asking for your vote, support and trust in the upcoming byelection,” says Quigley.

Has anyone heard if there will be an All Candidates Meeting or similar event where we can hear the Ward 5 Candidates speak?
I think it would be good to meet the Candidates, maybe network over coffee, and then hear them speak on what they believe Ward 5 needs, and how they can be an effective representative for Lindsay while the majority of CKL Council represent rural areas with different needs.
