Lindsay Garden Club’s “Flower Power” Christmas initiative brings holiday cheer to seniors in long-term care
The Lindsay Garden Club is excited to announce its annual “Flower Power” Christmas initiative, a heartwarming project dedicated to delivering holiday cheer through flowers and Christmas Cards to seniors in long-term care in Lindsay. This initiative, which celebrates the spirit of giving, aims to bring warmth and joy to residents who may not be able to spend the season with loved ones.
“We know that the holiday season can be a difficult time for many in long-term care, especially those who may not receive frequent visits,” said Kim McGee, of the Lindsay Garden Club. The “Flower Power” Christmas initiative is our way of letting these residents know they are not alone and that they’re remembered and cherished by their community.”
On December 4, Lindsay Garden Club volunteers will mobilize to pack and deliver over 700 brightly-coloured Kalanchoe plants, along with beautifully-decorated and heart melting personalized Christmas messages from local school children to seniors in nursing homes in Lindsay.
The students at the following schools prepared the specially crafted Christmas Cards to accompany each flowering plant: Alexandra Public School, St. John Paul II Elementary School, St. Mary’s Catholic Elementary School, Parkview Public School, King Albert Public School, Queen Victoria Public School, St. Dominic School Catholic Elementary School, and Heritage Christian School. The Lindsay Garden Club wholeheartedly thanks every child who took the time to brighten a senior’s life during the holiday season as well as their teachers who helped coordinate these special Christmas messages.
By connecting the beauty of nature with the magic of the holiday season, the “Flower Power” Christmas initiative strives to brighten the lives of those who need it most, bringing comfort and companionship through the simple, thoughtful gesture of a beautiful plant.
