Lindsay Canadian Club hosting conversation with contributing authors to local history book

By Lindsay Advocate

The Lindsay Canadian Club invites the community to attend its fourth event of the 2024-2025 season, The Story Behind The Story: A Conversation With the Creators of Reflections on Old Victoria County, happening on Wednesday Feb. 12, 2025.

Launched on May 18, 2024, Reflections on Old Victoria County completed a project that was started by the late Dr. Rae Fleming prior to his death in 2022 – and has gone on to sell over 450 copies, taking local stories far beyond our region.

A born storyteller, Rae Fleming was always intrigued by “the story behind the story.” This mantra inspired a group of historians and writers to celebrate his life and legacy through this collection of local lore.

In this informative and engaging panel discussion, some of these storytellers will share the backstories to their respective chapters. What inspired them to tell the stories they did? What challenges did they experience in the research process? And what did they learn about Old Victoria County (now Kawartha Lakes) in the process?

The LCC meets at the Royal Canadian Legion (12 York Street, Lindsay). Attendees are encouraged to grab a bite to eat downtown before coming to events, which get underway at 7:00 p.m. after a half-hour social time starting at 6:30 p.m.

Non-members can purchase tickets via canadianclublindsay.com/join, or pay at the door. Lindsay Canadian Club events are $10 ($5 for students), and a season’s membership can be purchased for $50 ($25 for students). For more information, please visit canadianclublindsay.com.
