Scott says tariffs, healthcare and skilled trades key issues for her
In their own words: Laurie Scott, Progressive Conservative

Kawartha Lakes Weekly/ The Lindsay Advocate has reached out to all candidates in the local riding in advance of the Feb. 27 provincial election. Over the course of the week, we will feature Progressive Conservative, NDP, Liberal and Green’s as well as all remaining parties.
Tell me a little about yourself.
I was born and raised in the riding of Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock (HKLB) and my family has been involved in public service locally for many generations. I continue to be a strong advocate for the rural community, especially in these ever-challenging times. Prior to entering political life, I was an RN and I remain passionate about improving local health care and adapting to the changing needs of our community including bringing long overdue health and long-term care investments to HKLB.
Why did you decide to run?
I am running again to build on previous work and continue to advocate for important local projects in the community. I believe only our PC team has a plan to protect Ontario and continuing to serve and make a positive impact for the constituents of HKLB is truly my motivation.
Is this election necessary? Do you accept the premise it was called under?
We are facing unprecedented times so we are asking the people of Ontario for their trust and a strong, stable, four-year mandate to do whatever it takes to protect Ontario.
What are three key issues that you believe should be discussed this election and why?
Protecting Ontario from looming tariff threats, building Ontario’s economy and improving local health care. We are working to build Ontario’s economy by investing more than $200 billion in our plan to build roads, highways, transit and other infrastructure while investing $2.5 billion to train more than one million people for better jobs and bigger paycheques in the skilled trades. We are delivering better care, by investing $1.8 billion more to connect everyone in Ontario to a family doctor and primary care.
The most common themes we are hearing from constituents
The threat of tariffs that will impact our economy, jobs, and increase the cost of living for families.
What is one idea or program that your party proposes that you are particularly proud of?
The continued evolution of primary care teams and our record investments in health care as well as our commitment to connect everyone to high-speed internet by 2025.
Where have you campaigned so far?
Everywhere, I have touched all corners of the riding and will continue to knock on doors and speak to constituents every day.
What kind of reception have you got from people when you knock on their door?
People are very happy to connect at the door and chat about issues that are important to them.
What appears to be the number one issue in the riding this election?
There is growing concern and fear with the ongoing tariff threats. People are pleased with the vision of Premier Ford and our Team Canada approach.
Has weather had an impact on your campaign?
Yes, things are a little snowier and colder but I am still getting out to talk to the residents of HKLB
Polling firms are predicting a turnout of below 40 percent of eligible voters. Do you agree after being out and about and talking to the voting public?
During my conversations, I encourage as many people as possible to get out and vote.
Go Laurie!!
Laurie doesn’t have a problem with Ford spending billions of taxpayer dollars for an unnecessary election even though they had a mandate with majority government for another year? The folks in Minden likely have an opinion on how well she supported healthcare in that area. The contract with Musk still stands even after the mess hr is creating in the USA. Laurie has done nothing for this riding because she doesn’t have to. The Conservative party counts on the slavish loyalty of the constituents to return her for the 7th time. Time to flip the riding and show Scott and Ford they need to work for the people.
Laurie says she is running again to “.. build on previous work.” What exactly has she done to improve life for her constituents? She is most proud of her party’s proposals of continued EVOLUTION of primary care teams and record investments in health care…” It’s been SEVEN years and hallway/LTC/ ED healthcare is much worse. In fact, the PC “evolution” of healthcare includes continuing to defund and to privatize. The Liberals, NDP, and Greens promise to reopen the Minden ER, work with a specific plan (do your research) to connect Ontarians with a family physician, and fund public healthcare properly. There is a housing plan, and a commitment to work together as a nation to deal with the tariff issues. The PCs run from challenging times. Laurie has repeatedly been absent when we needed her most. She has shown us what her priorities are same as the premier has, for example his support for President Trump and Elon Musk. It’s time for a change. It’s time to vote.
I find it somewhat amusing….the voters finally acknowledged and heard just before an election….oh the process works so well lol
It is a disgrace that Laurie was an RN and seems to be so out of touch with what is going on in our hospitals and healthcare with doctors and lack of operating procedures because there is a lack of funding. I really don’t believe that Trump cares what Doug Ford has to say about tariffs , that has all been a snmoke screen for Ford to call a quick election to catch all the Parties off guard.
Also Laurie does not have the courage to show up for any of the candidate debates! I believe a change is long overdue in our riding so get out and vote.
Doug is using the Trump card ( no pun intended)to call this election. I’m upset that he’s doing it solely for his own gain. He knows damn well there is no competition and that’s why he’s calling this election. Laurie if you cared about health care you wouldn’t have let the Minden er close and I really question what you have done for this riding as it’s been handed to you in every election. I hope people get out and vote for a lesser party . We need to say no more to the Liberals NDP and the Conservatives.
Laurie must be doing something right …she is the only candidate on here that gets people to comment (most are negative comments from liberals of course) ….strange that there are no comments whatsoever on any other candidates page ! Not hard to tell who the liberals are afraid of ! GO LAURIE GO !!!!!
