Kawartha Art Gallery partners with Kawartha Arts Network to present ‘Kawartha Creates’

By Lindsay Advocate

Residents and visitors are invited to explore Kawartha Creates, a new exhibition at the Kawartha Art Gallery by the Kawartha Arts Network. Local artists capture the beauty of Kawartha Lakes in a variety of media, from rural landscapes to bustling urban scenes. Immerse yourself in the sights and emotions that inspire these talented creators. The exhibition opens July 23, 2024 at KAG, which is located on the second floor of the Lindsay Public Library (190 Kent Street West, Lindsay Ontario). Admission is free or by donation.

“Kawartha Creates is a celebration of the landscapes, the art, and artists of the City of Kawartha Lakes,” the Gallery noted in a statement. “We are all residents of Kawartha Lakes, so we draw inspiration from our connections to its beautiful and varied landscapes, both rural and urban. Expressing what our environment means to us is a driving force for many of our works, seen here in Kawartha Creates. You may see images in the show that remind you of places you have visited and to which you have an emotional connection.”

“Every landscape has its own personality: some are grand and others far more subtle in their presence,” says Kawartha Arts Network’s artist and founding member Anders Widjedal . Our artists have spent a great deal of time in their local landscapes, seeing them through different seasons and a wide variety of perspectives. The process of understanding the chosen view, then interpreting and expressing it requires a period of time for absorption and contemplation, finally enabling a satisfactory solution for the image.”

In addition to the exhibition, there will be a special artist meet and greet reception Saturday, July 27 from 2:00 p.m. through 4:00 p.m. at the Gallery. The reception is catered by Pie Eyed Monk.

Kawartha Creates runs from  July 23 through August 17, 2024. Kawartha Art Gallery is open Tuesdays through Saturdays, from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. For more information, please visit kawarthagallery.com/exhibits/kan.
