Kawartha Art Gallery opens annual juried exhibit on October 8

The Kawartha Art Gallery is excited to announce the opening of its annual juried exhibit, Radical Buffet. This year’s theme explores the complex relationship between food, art, and society. The exhibit opens October 8, 2024 at Kawartha Art Gallery, which is located on the second floor of the Lindsay Public Library (190 Kent Street West, Lindsay Ontario). Admission is free or by donation.
There will also be a special Radical Buffet award reception, Thursday Oct. 17, 2024, from 7:00 through 9:00 p.m. This ticketed event takes place at the Pie Eyed Monk (8 Cambridge St North, Lindsay Ontario), and will be a special night of drinks and celebration to recognize the winners of the Radical Buffet Annual Juried Art Exhibition. Tickets are free, and must be booked in advance.
From the rituals of cooking and sharing meals to the broader issues of food security and sustainability, Radical Buffet invites artists to delve into the multifaceted world of food. Through a variety of mediums, artists will present their unique perspectives on the cultural, social, and personal significance of food.
The exhibit will feature a diverse range of artworks selected by a distinguished jury, including Laura Love (City of Kawartha Lakes Economic Development Officer – Curatorial Services), Xavier Massé (Dean of Fleming College’s Haliburton School of Art and Design), and Sarah Bell (photographer).
“Kawartha Art Gallery is grateful for the support of Fleming College Frost Campus, Fleming College Haliburton Campus and the City of Kawartha Lakes in creating the opportunity for our area artists to inspire, provoke and connect with our community through the Gallery’s 2024 Juried Exhibit – Radical Buffet,” says Susan Taylor, executive director of Kawartha Art Gallery. “It takes courage for an artist to put their work, a piece of their self, out there and it is with confidence that the Gallery welcomes the three jurors, Xavier Masse, Laura Love and Sarah Bell, to this year’s juried exhibit. In supporting our local artists, we work to support the growth of a vibrant and diverse creative community in the Kawarthas that will inspire younger generations of artists.”
Radical Buffet is co-presented by the Kawartha Art Gallery, Fleming College Frost Campus, Fleming College Haliburton Campus, and the City of Kawartha Lakes. It runs from Oct. 8, 2024 through Jan. 10, 2025 (Kawartha Art Gallery is open Tuesdays through Saturdays, 10:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m.).
