Joy, laughter, and safety are top priorities for Dear Santa at Globus Theatre

By Lindsay Advocate

Globus Theatre is to present a live holiday play reading of Dear Santa by Norm Foster with children from the community performing alongside a cast of professional actors. Audiences can enjoy a dinner and play reading in the evenings on Nov. 27 and 28, or a dessert and play reading at a matinee on Nov. 28 at the Lakeview Arts Barn in Bobcaygeon.

In this festive offering, audiences will travel to the North Pole where a frazzled Santa Claus and his over-worked staff attempt to overcome a supply shortage with only a short time left until Christmas. With some romance blossoming amidst the presents, and a mission to fulfill a child’s special Christmas wish, Dear Santa seeks to put a smile on even the biggest grinch.

The play stars Kevin Sepaul as Santa’s beleaguered chief of staff; Dave Pearce as Santa’s incompetent Russian assistant; Sarah Quick as Santa’s ditsy housekeeper; Mark Whelan as an enthusiastic sleigh salesman; Rebecca Anne Bloom as a feisty teen on a mission to save Christmas for her little brother, James Barrett as Santa, and even a chorus of cheeky elves.

“Sadly, we are not able to put on a full-scale community show this year due to COVID-19 restrictions. Instead, we are offering up this opportunity for enthusiastic young performers, who are sad to be missing out on stage time, to play a chorus of Santa’s elves,” says Sarah Quick, artistic director.

“With safety measures in place such as smaller cohorts for children; the use of masks; physical distancing practices for cast, staff, and patrons; and replacing live song with recordings, we were able to give opportunities to as many young performers as possible. The experience will be fun, safe and full of Christmas spirit!”
