Heartfelt Canadian comedy ‘Where You Are’ opens July 3 at Globus Theatre
Globus Theatre’s 21st season continues with a poignant and funny comedy, Where You Are, by popular Canadian playwright Kristen Da Silva.
Sisters Glenda and Suzanne live a quiet life selling homemade jam on Manitoulin Island. This summer, their usual concerns – trying to orchestrate sightings of their handsome veterinarian neighbour, Patrick and preparing for the visit of Suzanne’s grown daughter, Beth – are complicated by a secret the sisters can no longer contain. When Beth arrives with some secrets of her own, the three women face things that will change their lives forever.
Kristen Da Silva is a two-time recipient of the Playwrights Guild New Comedy award. Her writing credits include Book Club, Gibson & Sons, Five Alarm, Sugar Road (part of Globus’ 2018 season) and Hurry Hard (part of Globus’ 20th anniversary season). In 2016, she was the recipient of the Stage West Pechet Family Comedy Award. Where You Are had its premiere at Theatre Orangeville in 2019 and has since played at Upper Canada Playhouse and Victoria Playhouse in Prince Edward Island.
Returning to the Globus stage is audience favourite Anna Silvija Broks (Mending Fences, Lunenberg, and Sunshine Express; Globus Theatre) as Glenda, the sister of Suzanne played by Joanne Latimer (Halfway There; Globus Theatre). Suzanne’s daughter Beth is played by Tara Koehler (Sugar Road, The Great Kooshog Lake Hollis McCauley Fishing Derby; Globus Theatre) and rounding out the cast is newcomer to Globus, Josh Johnston (Million Dollar Quartet/ The Comedy of Errors, Grove Theatre; Timon of Athens, Stratford Festival) as Patrick.
Directing this production is Globus Theatre’s Artistic Producer James Barrett who is excited to bring this show to life. “During the pandemic, Globus Theatre held play readings for socially distanced audiences of fifty and Where You Are was one of the plays in the series,” explains Barrett. “There are so many touching moments shared between these three women throughout the play, I am thrilled to finally be mounting this as a full production on our stage.”
Where You Are, which runs from July 3 through July 13, is a hilarious and honest exploration of family, forgiveness and falling in love. Enjoy dinner at the theatre beforehand ($100) or just come for the show ($50). For more information, please visit globustheatre.com.
