Globus Theatre premieres a brand-new Canadian comedy, Sore Losers, this July
As its 23rd season continues, Globus Theatre in Bobcaygeon is proud to present the world premiere of Canadian playwright Bradley Austin’s new comedy, Sore Losers.
Starting on July 15, watch a ragtag team comprised of two bowling alley owners and the local dentist rally for a hilarious, high-stakes battle to finally get a bowling championship win.
Burt and his niece Angie are struggling to keep their family bowling alley afloat as a flashy new competitor threatens to put them out of business. Having spent a lifetime finishing last, Burt and his best friend Jim hatch a wildly ambitious plan to win the Provincial Bowling Championship and save both their livelihood and their pride. Filled with heart, humour, and plenty of laughs, this new Canadian comedy is certainly worth checking out this summer, if you have the time to spare (pun intended).
Playwright Bradley Austin also stars as Burt, one of the lovable bowlers at the centre of this play. Though this is his Globus Theatre debut, Brad is a familiar face on stages across Ontario, having appeared at Lighthouse Festival Theatre, Drayton Entertainment, and The Foster Festival, as well as in television series including The Boys, Schitt’s Creek, and Doc. He says that celebrating ordinary people and the communities they create is the heart of this story.
“I wrote this play as a love letter to losers. To the ones who keep trying even without getting the desired result. I wanted an underdog story and I wanted to laugh. A ragtag, cobbled together team that against the odds risks it all to get the big win… who doesn’t want to see that? We have all felt that way in our lives, haven’t we,” Austin said in a press release. “Bad runs of luck where everything goes wrong. When you can’t catch a break no matter how hard you try. It can be disheartening, demoralizing, and really funny. I love these losers; they remind me that playing just for the sake of winning isn’t as important as who you’re playing the game with, and ultimately for.”
Joining Bradley on stage are Globus Theatre’s Artistic Producer, James Barrett, as Jim, and familiar faces Mallory Brumm (Buying the Farm) and Kyle Claeys (Galatea, Shakespeare BASH’d; Comedy Bar Danforth), who are currently appearing in Globus’ murder mystery, Murder at the Match: World Cup 2026 Edition.
Packed with big laughs, heartfelt characters, and plenty of bowling banter, Sore Losers is the perfect summer comedy. As a brand-new Canadian play, it reflects Globus Theatre’s ongoing commitment to developing and celebrating homegrown stories, offering audiences the chance to experience a world premiere filled with humour, heart, and a cast of unforgettable underdogs.
Celebrating friendship, perseverance, and finding joy in life’s gutter balls, Sore Losers is a feel-good comedy that is sure to strike a chord with audiences of all ages, bowlers and non-bowlers alike. Tickets are available through the box office online at globustheatre.com or 705 738 2037.
