Season Within Reason

August 22nd – October 1st

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Globus Theatre in Bobcaygeon was forced to cancel its 17th season of Professional Summer Theatre.

But, with Stage 3 reopening; a unique venue comprising of a vast converted cattle barn; and a husband and wife creative team, the company is set to produce a ‘Season Within Reason’ that kicks off with a bang — an encore showing of 2019’s runaway success, Kama Sutra.

KAMA SUTRA by Sarah Quick

Theatre lovers that missed last year’s smash hit comedy, Kama Sutra, just got lucky! For three nights only this racy but heartwarming comedy is set to make a return to the Globus stage.

Bob and Lynda Anderson are happily married. At least they think they are. While the world around them changes apace their 25-year-old marriage remains steadfastly stable.

But, when researching exotic recipes for her new ‘cook club’, Lynda inadvertently checks the wrong book out of the library the couple find themselves in an awkward position…or two!

When asked why the company had chosen to head back to doing live performances, and with this show in particular, Artistic Director Sarah Quick had this to say:

“We knew we wanted to do something to engage our patrons who were missing their theatre fix, and our venue is eminently versatile so we can set it up with social distancing. Because the show just features myself and James (my real life husband!) it is an easy, financially risk free, crowd-pleasing solution which is exactly what was needed right now. Plus, when it ran last year it played to sold-out crowds and if any show deserves the term remount it’s the Kama Sutra!!”

These performances will be for a maximum of 50 people. In the theatre patrons will enjoy ample social distancing from fellow theatre-goers with all of the other seats completely removed. Curtains have been partially removed to open up the space and increase ventilation.

Survey says…

Globus recently surveyed their patrons asking if they were ready to return to the theatre and a massive 85 per cent of respondents said that they would love to see them provide some live entertainment in line with the current guidelines.

In addition to Kama Sutra Globus will be running a Play Reading Series for four evenings and a live, improvised soap opera for an in-theatre audience of 50 as well as an at home ‘livesteam’ audience (the two types of audience blending symbiotically!)
