Globus Theatre Bobcaygeon to Open their Season with Canadian Premiere of Desperate to be Doris

Globus Theatre is kicking off their season with the Canadian Premiere of Desperate to be Doris on May 29. This uplifting and comedic production originally toured in the UK and features songs from the iconic Doris Day.
By day, Dean is an ordinary worker in a pajama factory, but by night he’s a singing sensation performing Doris Day songs to his empty living room. When his operatic society decides to stage Calamity Jane, Dean realizes it could be his big break. A humourous tale of self-discovery and courage, Desperate to be Doris demonstrates the power of following your dreams.

Desperate to be Doris stars former Degrassi actor, Ephraim Ellis, as Dean. Joining him on stage as a variety of hilarious characters are two familiar faces to Globus’ audiences – Elana Post (The Ladies Foursome and Hurry Hard), and Globus’s own Artistic Director, Sarah Quick.
“This play is exactly the style of theatre that Globus Theatre is known for – a fast paced, comedic story brought to life through various zany characters played by talented actors,” explains director James Barrett in a press release.
The most unique aspect of this play is its collaboration between a professional cast of actors and a local community choir. After an initial call out to the community in March, Globus has established two choirs of talented Kawartha Lakes singers who have been tirelessly rehearsing these feel-good Doris Day songs under the direction of Kelly Burrows.
“It has been such a joy and privilege working on these Doris Day songs with our amazing community choir,” says Kelly. “The fact that all of these singers wanted to come together and participate in what’s sure to be an incredible season opener, shows just how much talent there is in our community and how much we all love Globus Theatre’s productions. We are very excited to showcase our hard work and cannot wait for everyone to come out and see Desperate to be Doris!”
Desperate to be Doris runs from May 29 – June 7, 2025.
Looking forward to seeing another fun production at Globus!
