Fleeing suspect caught by police
On the afternoon of Feb. 21 an employee of a Kent Street west store in Lindsay observed a man leave the business with two full bags of unpaid groceries.
The employee telephoned the City of Kawartha Lakes Police Service to report the theft and exited the store to confront the man.
The man fled from the area when confronted by the employee, but was arrested by police a short time later.
Charged with theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order is 35-year-old Raymond Albert Smoke of Lindsay.
The accused will make an appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay on Thursday Feb. 22.
