Festive RIDE nets first impaired of season

By Lindsay Advocate

Officers with the City of Kawartha Lakes Police Festive RIDE team arrested the first impaired driver of the season last night.

At 5:41 pm yesterday, the officers were conducting spot checks for impaired drivers in the Russell Street West area of Lindsay when they had occasion to stop a 2017 Nissan Sentra.

While speaking with the driver, the officer noted that she had been drinking and ask that she submit to a roadside screening test for alcohol. The female complied and registered a fail on the screening device. She was taken to the police station where she provided samples of her breath which registered alcohol reading slightly over double the legal limit.

Now, 61-year-old Jill Wiltshire of Lindsay has been charged with operating a motor vehicle with more than the legal limit of alcohol in her blood. She will appear in the Lindsay Court of Justice on Jan. 11. Under the authority of the Highway Traffic Act, her licence has been suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle she was operating has been impounded for seven days.
