Doube’s Trestle Bridge closed for foreseeable future
As a result of a fire on Wednesday September 4, 2024 the Doube’s Trestle Bridge on the Kawartha Trans Canada Trail has been closed and is impassable. The bridge will remain closed to public use for the foreseeable future.
Barricades and signage are in place. The public are asked to respect the closure and avoid the area. The trail is closed from Orange Corners to Emily Park Road.
Doube’s Bridge is a historical landmark and was first constructed in 1884. Additional updates on the status of the bridge will be shared in due course by the Kawartha Trans Canada Trail Association.
Kawartha Trans Canada Trail Association is a volunteer run, not-for-profit organization that operates on grant funding and donations. To donate to the Kawartha Trans Canada Trail for repair efforts of the Doube’s Trestle Bridge visit ktct.ca.
I absolutely love the idea of “a covered bridge” in the Kawartha lakes, similar to the ones you see in the United States. I absolutely love the idea of “punishment” for those who would deface our national treasures. Unlike the United States … the constituents, and by extension their offspring of this nation have all the rights and freedoms yet NO personal responsibility. Punishment is a “foreign word”, an ugly concept in Canada. Of course, without leadership the laws shall never change, nor shall the punishment. Perhaps in a (canadian) world where all things Canadian are outsourced perhaps we should look to Singapore for “leadership” for the bear minimum punishment because here in Canada that too is a foreign construct. I guess all Canada is left with is burnt bridges, and a judicial system that doesnt meet the minimum.
The Doube Trestle bridge was one of my favourite haunts. What kind of ugly person destroys things that have nothing to do with them?
So now we have one less outdoor treasure to enjoy because of some idiot whose only aim in life is to kill the joy we take in the outdoor spaces. These people are brainless wastes of air.
