Community Care officially opens new Community Health Centre
The community came together on March 1 to celebrate the grand opening of Community Care City of Kawartha Lakes’ (CCCKL) Community Health Centre. This marked a momentous day in CCCKL’s history and celebrated a project more than a decade in the making.
Community Care City of Kawartha Lakes’ CEO Ryan Alexander shared the journey that led up to opening the doors of the new Community Health Centre. He paid tribute to the previous Community Care CEOs, Valmay Barkey, Cathy Danbrook and Barb Mildon, who all contributed to the vision, planning and construction of the new CHC. “The opening of our new Community Health Centre is a milestone day in our journey to enhance the delivery of care in our community,” says Alexander. “This project would not have been possible without the expertise, patience, leadership of our previous CEOs and their ability to bring a group toward a common vision. ”
CCCKL was also joined by MPP Laurie Scott, who shared her reflections on how the new Community Health Centre will benefit the health and well-being needs of residents of Kawartha Lakes.
Community Care’s Board Chair, Dr. Julie Johnson, spoke to the impact this new building has for our community and highlighted that the CHC is a place where individuals and families can access high-quality primary care, dental care, geriatric care, and wellness programming. “At its core, the Community Health Centre embodies the values of compassion, inclusivity, and service to others,” says Johnson. “It is a testament to the power of collective action and the belief that by working together, we can create positive change and improve the health and well-being of all members of the City of Kawartha Lakes community.”
Community Care’s Foundation Board Chair, Sheryl Benson, also recognized CCCKL’s appreciation for the investment from the provincial government and the generosity of the donors that supported the Capital Campaign, which helped to open the facility. “We are incredibly grateful for the investment from our provincial government, through the Ministry of Health, for funding the vast majority of this $15million facility,” says Benson. “On top of that, we express our sincere appreciation for our donors who raised over $400,000 to support opening this new Community Health Centre.”
An official ribbon-cutting ceremony at the front doors officially marked the opening of the Community Health Centre. The grand opening ceremony finished with guided tours around the facility to show attendees how this space serves the health and well-being needs of the community.
The new purpose built facility, located at 21 Angeline Street North in Lindsay, is home to Community Care’s clinical services such as the primary care clinic, dental clinic, and Geriatric Assessment and Intervention Network (GAIN) team. The space also supports a variety of CCCKL’s wellness programs, such as Community Based Exercise Classes, cooking classes and the Good Food Box program.
