Community Care Foundation reaches $25,000 goal: Virtual Hike for Hospice
The Community Care Foundation and Community Care City of Kawartha Lakes’ (CCCKL) Hospice Services are thrilled to announce that they have reached their $25,000 goal during the first-ever virtual Hike for Hospice. The Hike has raised $25,146 with two weeks still to go in the campaign.
While the Hike looked different this year due to COVID-19, the enthusiasm from the community has not wavered. Participants were given the flexibility to choose their own date and trail for the hike and were encouraged to hike on their own or in small groups and send their pledges in online at www.hikeforhospice.ca. Sixteen teams registered for the Virtual Hike to-date, with over 50 individual participants taking part. Those interested can still register at www.hikeforhospice.ca to complete their Hike by September 30.
“We are blown away by the generosity and support of our shared community, especially during what has been a trying year for many,” said Toula Murchie, Fund Development Director for the Community Care Foundation. “We sincerely appreciate the community coming together to embrace a new version of the Hike.”
While this is the first year that Hike for Hospice has been run virtually, the event has been a staple in the City of Kawartha Lakes. Now in its 16th year, Hike continues to raise much-needed funds for Community Care’s Hospice Services. Hospice supports those living with life-limiting illness, as well as those grieving the loss of a loved one. The funds raised from Hike for Hospice help ensure that these vital supports remain in place for those who need them.
“The community has truly gone above and beyond in supporting this year’s Hike for Hospice,” said Diane Cairns, Chair of the Community Care Foundation’s Board of Directors. “It is humbling to see CKL residents give so much back to us not only through donations, but also through their individual and collective engagement and support. The Foundation Board extends its most grateful thanks to all.”
Hike for Hospice would not have been possible without the generous contributions from our local sponsors including Economy Wheels Nissan and the Lindsay Ear Clinic (Gold Sponsors); Moynes Ford Sales, Water Depot and Wood-Mizer (Hike Heroes); and Kawartha Lakes This Week, BOB FM and the Kawartha Promoter (Media Sponsors).
