By Mike Puffer

Community Care City of Kawartha Lakes is currently seeking expressions of interest from local residents who would consider serving on the organization’s volunteer Board of Directors. New appointments to the board would be effective at the Community Care Annual General Meeting in June 2018.

Please see the “Board of Directors Opportunity” poster attached to this month’s update. If you would like to lend your leadership and expertise to our community organization, you are invited to e-mail a resume to Executive Assistant Mary Ellen Wood at . Applications must be received by April 30.

LOOKING AHEAD: 2018 VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION – SAVE THE DATE

Planning has begun for Community Care’s annual Volunteer Appreciation banquet, when agency staff and officials salute the tremendously valuable contributions made each year by our volunteers. The 2018 Volunteer Appreciation event will be Thursday, April 19 at the Victoria Park Armoury in Lindsay.

We are very excited to announce that the keynote speaker will be Canadian comedienne, actress and motivational speaker Linda Kash (well known for her appearances on The Rick Mercer Report, The Ron James Show, and for her “heavenly role” in the Kraft Philadelphia Cream Cheese angel commercials).

This year’s salute to our “Exceptional People with Extraordinary Hearts” will begin at 7 p.m. on April 19. Following the presentation of awards to Community Care volunteers who have attained milestone years of service, everyone will enjoy desserts, coffee and tea.

Invitations will be mailed soon to volunteers who have been active in the past year. Special presentations will be made to those volunteers who are achieving 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 or more years of service.

FROM THE FOUNDATION …

The Community Care Foundation helps build healthy communities across Kawartha Lakes by raising support for Community Care’s range of services and programs.

HANDBAGS FOR HOSPICE RAISES $33,000

It was “a night to remember” at the 3rd annual Handbags for Hospice Charity Auction. The evening of fun, friendship and fundraising in support of Community Care Hospice Services grief support programs was held Jan. 26 in the ballroom at the Admiral Inn, Lindsay. Thanks to the 200+ attendees at the sold-out event, who collectively raised more than $33,000! The generosity of the community will support many local residents as they journey through illness and/or grief experiences.

This year’s fundraising total includes more than $16,000 raised on the spot for training and additional Hospice volunteers. This will enable Hospice to respond to the increasing challenges that clients face with illness, grief and bereavement.

We are grateful to the many generous corporate sponsors of Handbags for Hospice:

Gold Level: Boston Pizza & Canadian Tire, Lindsay, Silver Level: Cable Cable, Economy Wheels Nissan, Twine & Twig, Frost Whetter Oaklin Insurance, Commonwell Mutual Insurance Group. Bronze Level: Manley Motors, Lindsay Buick GMC, Lindsay KIA, Homestead Oxygen & Medical Equipment.

Friends: Days Inn & Suites, Wards Lawyers, Lindsay Dry Cleaners. Media Sponsors: 91.9 BOB-FM Radio, Metroland Media (My Kawartha).
