Cluster of suspected opioid overdoses in Lindsay
Since Dec. 23, Kawartha Lakes Police have responded to five separate reports of a suspected overdose involving opioids.
Most of the incidents have occurred in the past 48 hours. Three of those incidents were fatal and the other two individuals required follow-up treatment at hospital.
The death investigations are ongoing under the direction of the Coroner’s office. Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to call Kawartha Lakes Police or Crimestoppers.
The Kawartha Lakes Police Service is asking community partners and service providers to advise their patients and clients of a recent cluster of overdoses associated with the use of controlled substances in the Lindsay area.
Please also encourage patients and clients to access a free naloxone kit, and to not use drugs alone.
If you see an overdose, call 911 immediately. Under Canada’s Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act, if you seek medical help for yourself, or for someone else who has overdosed, neither of you will be charged for possession or using drugs, nor will anyone else at the scene.
