City Hall hosts its first ever marriage ceremony

Congratulations to Judie and Jim, the first couple to be married in City Hall at 26 Francis Street, Lindsay. On June 7, Judie and Jim held a small marriage ceremony with two close friends in City Hall’s second floor atrium.

Judie and Jim held a beach ceremony in Mexico this past February, but wanted to be officially married in Canada. Coming to City Hall to be married, they say, was perfect.

“It was a great spot for a ceremony,” said Judie and Jim. “We wanted something close to home that was easy and affordable, and the space was great.”

During the ceremony, the couple exchanged vows and shared memories about their relationship, their ocean-side ceremony and their time together.

“The municipality can assist residents in obtaining a marriage licence, performing a marriage ceremony and getting a marriage certificate after the ceremony,” said Joel Watts, Deputy Clerk at the City of Kawartha Lakes. “It’s great to be able to help our residents on such a special day.”

Judie and Jim’s ceremony was followed by cupcakes and the couple looks forward to honeymooning at a Bluegrass Festival.

“Sometimes the simplest of ceremonies make the happiest of moments. The Clerk’s Office is honoured to have been a part of Jim and Judie’s ceremony, and we wish them all the best in their future together. We are pleased to now offer marriage ceremonies either at City Hall or at a location of your choice,” added Cathie Ritchie, City Clerk.
