CCTV camera system installed in downtown Lindsay
The Lindsay Downtown BIA is thrilled to announce the installation of a state-of-the-art CCTV camera system in downtown Lindsay, a move that underscores their commitment to fostering a safe and secure environment for residents and visitors alike. This initiative has been made possible through funding from the City of Kawartha Lakes, and through the provincial government in partnership Kawartha Lakes Police Service, reflecting a strong collaboration focused on community well-being.
The newly installed CCTV system will be operated and maintained by the Lindsay Downtown Business Improvement Area (LDBIA), ensuring that their vibrant downtown remains a welcoming space for all. With enhanced surveillance capabilities, this system aims to deter criminal activity, provide valuable support in emergency situations, and promote a greater sense of security among community members and visitors.
“We believe that safety is paramount to revitalizing and enhancing our downtown area,” said Melissa McFarland, executive director of the LDBIA. “The CCTV camera system represents a proactive step towards creating a safer community, where residents can enjoy our local businesses and visitors can explore all that Lindsay has to offer without concern.”
The footage captured by the CCTV cameras is strictly regulated and will not be accessible to the general public. Access to this footage will be granted only upon request to the LDBIA by police services for the purpose of investigating crimes, ensuring the privacy and protection of community members while still providing essential tools for crime prevention.
This initiative is a testament to the collaborative efforts between the Kawartha Lakes Police Service, the City of Kawartha Lakes, and the Lindsay Downtown BIA, all united by a common goal: to enhance the safety, security, and overall quality of life in our beloved community.
As the LDBIA welcomes this new era of safety in Lindsay Downtown, it invites everyone to enjoy the benefits it brings. Together, all can create a thriving environment where everyone feels secure and supported.
Enhance the “safety” in the community? Interesting given my personal experiences with business owners who have been “violated” through theft, their cases “dismissed” by the police (using the old excuse, well the courts wont process or incarcerate the KNOWN violator. I would be remiss if i didnt mention the final trauma of paying TAXES for services not rendered…at one time known as “dereliction” of duty … I am sure there is a more progressive term… I personally like to call it as i see it…. More window dressing, more illusions.
It’s great that police can now (hopefully) identify criminals quickly, and bring them for prosecution. Now we just need our pathetic court system to actually keep criminals off the street.
